Automate Split PDF with PDF4me Workflows

We come across a lot of digital documents these days, especially PDFs. These PDFs may sometime be a collection of information from which we might need only some specific data. E.g, a PDF document with multiple Invoices in a single file. You might want to split this invoice into separate PDF files.

If you are someone who handles a large number of such documents where you want to split them and save them to storage separately, you are at the right place. PDF4me’s Split PDF actions from Workflows lets you split PDF file using different methods and automate it fully.

How to Automate Split PDF?

Let us look at this by creating a sample workflow where you want to split a large PDF file periodically at a fixed number of pages.

Start by launching the PDF4me Dashboard.

  • Select the Create Workflow button.

Add a trigger to start your Workflow

Add a trigger to kick-start your automation. Currently, Workflows provide 2 triggers.

Dropbox and Google Drive. For e.g. let us create a Google Drive trigger. Configure the connection and choose the folder where the input files are expected.

Add the desired Split action

Add and configure a Split PDF action to separate the file pages as required.

Workflows provide 3 types of Split -

  • Split By Page Number - Split into multiple PDFs at specified page numbers.

  • Split Recurring - Split into multiple documents periodically after a given number of pages.

  • Split by Barcode - Splits a PDF file into multiple PDF files based on available barcode information on the pages.

Add a For Each Document Control

Since the Split action generates multiple documents, a For Each Document control is necessary to handle the output files one by one. The rest of the actions should be included inside this control.

Add a Save to action

The output files need to be saved back to cloud storage. In our use case let us configure a Save to Google Drive action.

Now, every time a new file is detected in the Google Drive folder configured in the trigger - the file is picked up, split using the configured action, and saved back to the configured folder in the Google Drive.
